This one is perhaps a bit more technical but it definitely sounds like TOMB MOLD, complex but always brutal. It’s no surprise to us that this lives up to that hype because TOMB MOLD has been one of our favorite death metal bands over the past few years. This album has been hyped as much as an indie death metal release can be hyped, complete with memes & Twitter beefs. > TOMB MOLD – The Enduring Spirit LP/CD/CS (20 Buck Spin) *Black or North American Exclusive Blue & Black VinylĢ023 has been a huge year for death metal, especially for the Toronto based TOMB MOLD. > PARANNOUL – After the Magic 2LP (Top Shelf) *Magenta VinylĪfter the Magic is a fantastic exercise in rock experimentation from anonymous South Korean artist PARANNOUL, reinventing shoegaze, emo, drum’n’bass and dream pop into a maximalist esoteric collage style. A near perfect melding of synthy dance & guitar rock n roll. ![]() This is for folks who like the YEAH YEAH YEAHS or BLONDIE. Whether they’re giving you cleansing disco rock, or slower, chiller space-y tunes, they’re always themselves. They’re incredible songwriters with a great grasp of arrangement. That’s what makes METRIC’s 20 year career. While Formentera II lacks some cohesiveness, you couldn’t ask for better songs. > METRIC – Formentera II LP (Thirty Tigers) *Black or Clear Pink Vinyl It’s not accurate to pigeonhole this record exclusively as “soul” you’ll hear guitar-driven STROKES-esque shamble and icy dance rock in the vein of 90s BJORK, but with flecks of gospel/R&B that will remind some of SOLANGE. This third record from experimental soul artist L’RAIN gets theatrical, with her dramatic vocalizations built up around dark orchestral sound design, yet given some levity with wry humor. > L’RAIN – I Killed Your Dog LP (Mexican Summer) *Black or Indie Exclusive Oxblood Vinyl Chill and dubby but still profoundly evil – perfect listening for the cold months to come. Their first LP as a duo plunges you into the shadow world with low grooves and subtle synth work.
